CAIR Urges Lawmakers: End U.S. Military Action Against Iran Without Congressional Approval

Robert S. McCaw, the government affairs director for the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), sent an email to all Senate offices urging lawmakers to support a resolution that would require the withdrawal of U.S. forces from hostilities against Iran that have not been authorized by Congress.

Hawzah News Agency- In his message to the Senate, McCaw warned that “U.S. military action against Iran without congressional authorization would put American and civilian lives at serious risk and increase the likelihood of a broader regional conflict''. He also noted that in a confidential briefing last night, the Trump administration “provided no credible evidence of an imminent threat from Iran that would justify last weekend’s attack under U.S. or international law ''.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations also expressed concern about reports that the latest U.S. military action was pressured by the Israeli government, which bears a disturbing resemblance to how Israeli officials helped mislead the United States in the Iraq War through false claims about weapons of mass destruction.

“Congress alone has the constitutional authority to declare war'', said McCaw. “This vote is about constitutional accountability, preventing another unnecessary war, and making clear that foreign governments do not decide when American troops are sent into combat''.
